Emergency First Response Courses

We offer Emergency First Response (EFR) Courses, starting with a comprehensive Primary and Seconday Course including AED option, a Care for Children Course which has an emphasis on children and infants, and a CPR and AED Course for workplace environments. Please contact us for your EFR training needs. Emergency First Response

The Emergency First Response (EFR) course introduces emergency medical skills for the layperson. It is divided into two parts, including Primary Care: cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Secondary Care: first aid. This course is open to nondivers as well as certified divers.

This is a hands on, learn by doing class which includes knowledge development (watching the DVD/video and reading the handbook), skill development (demonstration by the instructor and explanation of the steps), and then hands on practice during realistic scenarios.

The EFR Primary and Secondary Care Courses are required for obtaining the Rescue Diver certification. All dive leaders (Divemasters and Instructors) for Mar Scuba have completed EFR training. Primary Care (CPR)

The Primary Care (CPR) portion focuses on how to deal with emergencies that are immediately life threatening. The Primary Care (CPR) skills are:

  • Barrier Use

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Serious bleeding management
  • Shock management
  • Spinal injury management

There is also a segment on how to help a conscious choking adult which is another optional component that is included in the course fee.

Logistics

Wear comfortable clothes for the course, because we'll spend a lot of time kneeling over the "victim" and doing skills such as practicing CPR on a mannequin.

Approximate classroom time: 4-8 hours depending on the number of participants in the course. Average number of participants ranges from 3-6 people.

Please contact us with any scheduling requests. Also, we can conduct this course at your location. A room with a television and DVD/video player and enough space to practice the skills is necessary.
