Ladies' Dive Weekend 2008
Please join us for this special event, designed to bring international women from the dive community together. Make a new buddy, learn more about diving in Japan, brush up on your skills, and enjoy a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. This even will be run by Mar Scuba's Instructor Tamara Eelsing and Divemaster Stephanie Stroup.
Dates: Friday May 30 - Sunday June 1
Location: Kumomi, West Izu Peninsula
Dive Sites and Activities
Nestled between the steep hillsides of the West Izu Peninsula, this beautiful sheltered natural harbor is home to one of Izu's most popular dive locations.
On a clear day you can see Mt. Fuji perfectly framed by the cliffs at the mouth of the harbor. A few minutes by boat takes you to a large rock outcropping that in the distant past was cleft in two. The formations create a playground of swim-throughs and underwater caverns.
The facilities at Kumomi are some of the best on the peninsula, a large clean building right on the quayside with showers, a hot tub, changing rooms and lounge area.
Dive sites in Kumomi are suitable for beginners to advanced divers; there is something to interest everyone. Close to the many underwater rock formations, there are schools of reef fish, while the deeper water attracts larger fish life, an abundance of sealife, including a mix of temperature and tropical fish such as anemone fish, angel fish, basslet, box fish, butterfly fish, crab, file fish, goby, morays, parrot fish, small stingray, squid, surgeon fish, trigger fish, wrasse, and more.
The beach in Kumomi is perfect for those wishing to lounge between dives, with one of the most spectacular views on the Izu Peninsula.
