PADI Rescue Diver Certfication

Course Overview

The PADI Rescue Diver course allows you to learn skills to make you a safer diver and a better dive buddy. This course teaches you to focus on other divers, as well as yourself, and shows you how to recognize and prevent a diving accident before it occurs, and how to respond if one does. Although the subject matter can be serious, the course is rewarding and enjoyable. This program includes 10 Rescue Exercises and 4 Open Water Rescue Scenarios, emphasizing flexibility and adapting the diver to personal and environmental conditions.

The course takes place over 2 days with the following schedule. For the academic portion, there is a one evening session covering the Knowledge Reviews and then a Final Exam.

Prerequisites

The Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care course is required before starting the Rescue Diver course. Information for this course and further details can be found on the Emergency First Response page.

Course Details - Day 1

  • Rescue Exercise 1: Tired Diver - Approach, Evaluation, Making Contact, Reassuring the Diver, Assists and Transport, Equipment Removal
  • Rescue Exercise 2: Panicked Diver - Approach and Evaluation, Making Contact, Releases
  • Rescue Exercise 3: Response from Shore/Boat (Responsive Diver) - Nonswimming and swimming assists, tows, flotation aids, and releases
  • Rescue Exercise 4: Distressed Diver Under Water - Identify and respond to overexerted diver and active panic underwater, controlled air sharing and ascent
  • Rescue Exercise 5: Missing Diver - Search and locate missing diver using various underwater search patterns
  • Rescue Exercise 6: Surfacing the Unresponsive Diver - Controlled positive buoyancy as an aid to ascent, buoyancy control to ascend
  • Rescue Exercise 7: Unresponsive Diver at the Surface - Calling for help, turning diver face up, removing mask, check for breathing, rescue breathing, equipment removal
  • Rescue Exercise 8: Exiting an Unresponsive Diver - How to remove an unresponsive breathing or nonbreathing diver, carries and tows.
  • Rescue Exercise 9: First Aid for Pressure-Related Accidents - Oxygen Adminstration to nonbreathing unresponsive diver and rescue breathing for nonbreathing unresponsive diver
  • Rescue Exercise 10: Response from Shore/Boat (Unresponsive Diver) - Respond to diver emergency, inwater rescue breathing, exit with nonbreathing unresponsive diver, and rendering first aid

Emergency Action Plan review and evaluation

  • Open Water Rescue Scenario 1: Distressed Diver with Extremity Injury
  • Open Water Rescue Scenario 2: Distressed Diver on the Surface
  • Open Water Rescue Scenario 3: Unresponsive Diver Underwater
  • Open Water Rescue Scenario 4: Unresponsive Diver on the Surface, Exiting the Unresponsive Diver and First Aid

Cost and Package Details

The Rescue Diver course package price is 75,950 yen and includes:

  • Course materials such as manual, slate, and certification card
  • All necessary beach or pool dives to complete the exercises
  • Bento lunch on ocean dive day

Not Included in Course Fee

  • Transportation expenses from Tokyo to pool or dive site
  • Rental equipment is available for both days at price of one day rental.
