PADI Scuba Diver Certification

Overview

This is a certification course with limitations on depth and supervision. You will be able to obtain equipment for diving under supervision of a Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or Instructor. Dives are restricted to 12 meters/30 feet. This course is for a person who has very limited time or cannot finish the Open Water Diver course. We recommend that you do the final 2 dives to get the full Open Water Diver certification.

Prerequisites

Minimum age for adult certification is 15 years of age. Must be able to float for 10 minutes and swim 200 meters nonstop (no time limit).

Course Details

The Scuba Diver course consists of:

  • Knowledge Development sessions (5 modules to complete): Home or classroom study with instructor led review of concepts important to diving. This can be completed at home with the video and textbook or by computer and multimedia CD ROM, then we will do a complete review of the important diving concepts before taking some quizzes and exams.
  • Skills Development sessions (5 modules) in a pool (confined water): Pool dives to learn and practice diving skills. This is held at a special diving pool in Tokyo. (Currently we are using Renaissance Sports Gym in Waseda, near the Toden Arakawa line) Usually this is a one day / 3-4 hour session held from 7-10 pm on a weekday or in the afternoon on a Saturday or Sunday. Map can be found using this link.
  • Two scuba dives in open water: Diving in the ocean, usually at a beach dive site on the Izu penninsula (Beach dives at Atami, Kawana, or Yawatano; optional boat dives at Atami or Hokkawa).
