Mar Scuba Instructors Abroad
Jeremy Deschner (Okinawa)
PADI Assistant Instructor 239838
I started diving in Dallas, Texas 1987 when I was a teenager. My mother bought me an OW course for my birthday. Ever since then I have had the diving bug. These days I really like perfecting my diving skills. I use a different set up than most people. I use some of the D.I.R. (Do It Right) set up. I use the long hose rig but I also like to use a BCD vest. I like being with Mar Scuba because I think that everyone who is a member wants to become a better diver and we can learn from each and every member.
Dive Equipment: Aqua lung 2nd stage and octopus. Cressi first stage primary. Genesis Cobar 2 BCD. Vector Fins.
Favorite Japan Dive Site: I really enjoyed diving Toi, and just this year I had the opportunity to move to my very favorite dive site - Okinawa!
Tamara Eelsing, Scuba Instructor (Brussels, Belgium)
PADI Instructor OWSI-978198
I learned to dive in the nice blue waters of Mexico, and after getting my open water I was so 'Dive Crazy' that I continued in The Netherlands. Every holiday I started diving, because
there's so much to see under water. So I dove Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, Curacao, Tobago, Mallorca, Egypt, Cebu, Saipan and the Maldives. When I decided I wanted to continue my dive education
onto a professional level, I lived in the UK, so I did a lot of diving there, too.
I must admit though that I'm happy to be in Japan, because the diving here is so much better than in the UK. I'm sure you will enjoy it too!
Dive Equipment: I have a girl's outfit to give some extra support where it's needed most, so for my BCD I chose the Diva LX from Seaquest. I have 4 suits, one shorty 2mm
from Bare, one longy 3mm from Aqualung and a double (longy + shorty) 7 of Cressi. All ladies suits of course, because I think it's really important that a suit fits good. Otherwise the
protection gets diminished. For my reglator I chose the Aqualung Legend and for the Octopus the Legend LX, because they can both survive colder water and won't freeze up easily. My
computer is the most valuable thing I own in Dive Equipment, and then I don't mean money wise. I think every diver should have a computer, because it makes diving so much safer! Mine is
the Suunto Cobra, which is integrated with my air, so that's an added bonus. Fins are really important to make you feel comfortable in the water, so I chose the Mares VOLO and I love
them! They're lightweight, so I can take them on holiday everywhere!
Favorite Dive Site: Atami or beach dives
Favorite Food from Pizzakaya: Wild, Wild Mushroom Pizza
Geoff Tayler (Hong Kong)
PADI Assistant Instructor 473339
Geoff is from the UK, where the waters are cold and dark, not like the temperate and beautiful waters of Izu. As the head PADI Divemaster, Geoff helps divers to plan the dive and dive
the plan, and is the expert on Mikomoto. He has a keen eye for finding nudibranch and other marine life, and takes some wonderful photographs.
Dive Equipment: Oxycheq 45 lb. Signature Wing with Stainless steel backplate, Scubapro Mk 25/G250 regulators, Diving Concepts Ultraflex Pro (all black) with TPS Thinsulate
undergarments (200 gram)
Favorite Dive Site: Kamene or Aone in Mikomoto for Hammerhead Sharks and blue water diving
Favorite Food from Pizzakaya: Hell Sausage Meatballs and Big Russell Pizza
