Tips and Hints for Izu Diving

With our many years of experience diving in Japan, both local diving on the Izu Peninsula as well as diving across Japan and overseas, we have come up with some tips and hints to make your dive trip more enjoyable.

Preparation

Pack your bag
Don't forget to pack your bag
the night before!

In the morning it is easy to forget gear and train schedules. We recommend packing dive bags the night before and printing out the train timetables.

For Mar Scuba dive tours, we send out an information sheet with the meeting location, times, and contact numbers.

Dive Bags

Takkyubin (courier) service is available to transport your dive bag to the dive destination. Many people do not know about this service. Many convenience stores can accept luggage for courier service. It takes about 2 days from Tokyo to the Izu area, so for a Saturday dive trip, the bag needs to be sent by Wednesday in order to arrive by Friday. Please contact us for more details as well as the address of the dive service that will be used for the dive tour.

For those who prefer to carry their own bags on the train, wheeled bags make transport much easier. Many of the stations have been upgraded with elevators and escalators, so you do not need to carry big bags up and down stairs. Mar Scuba carries the line of XS Scuba dive luggage to make a pleasant journey.

Tip for the ride back: Carry large waterproof trash bags to pack your gear in so that it will not drip all over everything on the way back if your gear has not dried completely. We recommend large dry sacks from XS Scuba.
